Politics is the set of activities or decisions made in a group or a tribe to make fair agreements. The word politics is derived from the latin word “Politica”.The rights that are given to humans after birth are known as human rights which includes life, liberty and dignity. Eleanor Roosevelt was the first person to introduce human rights internationally. The United Nation declared the concept of human rights on 10 December, 1948 AD. So, 10th of December is celebrated as the International Human Rights Day. Human rights are based on peace, freedom, and justice.Politics affects the human rights of citizens. If the politics of a country is good and stable then the human rights are ensured by the law and good governance can be observed. The politics and politicians should be sustainable and skillful so that there are equal and fair rights among the people. The political system affects how the people use their rights and behave rationally, respecting each other’s values and rights.In the context of Nepal, an unstable political system is causing violation of human rights. For example: rape cases, trafficking, murders, discrimination etc. According to the report of 2021 by the Human Rights Commission, more than 60,000 complaints were filed on the violation of human rights in the Supreme Court but neither of them were completed because there were changes in government and the system couldn’t work smoothly. If the political system isn’t moving systematically then the mechanism of human rights can’t function well too.Both the citizens and politicians should understand politics so that there is a peaceful and harmonic society. All citizens should be aware about the laws and policy. They should be empowered, informed, concerned and skillful to run politics in a balanced way. Poor politics always leads to an unbalanced human rights, people with higher power would have better rights than the common people of a country. If the political system is balanced then human rights would eventually develop and everyone would have balanced rights too.
